Ramp, Wallace Joseph "Wally"
Entered his Heavenly Home on June 16, 2023 after a brief illness. He joyfully reunited there with his beautiful wife Barbara; his parents Faustino and Rose (Paternoster) Rampanelli (who were immigrants from Austria); brothers Louis, Henry, August, and Adolph; sisters Mary and Lena; and sons-in-law Charlie Bell and David Drucker.
Wally was born in Lead, South Dakota on January 5, 1923. He attended school there and graduated from Lead High School. He then attended U of M for one semester before joining the US Army in 1943. He proudly fought in the African Theater, where serious injuries forced his return Stateside. After he was discharged from the army in 1946, he began a 50-year career as a draftsman at Crowley Boiler Works. Wally married Barbara Johnson, the love of his life, on Feb. 15, 1945. They raised a loving family in Jackson. Mourning Wally's passing are his children Jayleane Drucker, James Ramp, Dan (Peggy) Ramp, Christine (Sam) Hammond, and Jack (Sally) Ramp. His eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and special daughter Beverly Sachar will forever cherish his memory, as will his many nieces and nephews.
Wally was an active patron at the Jackson YMCA until age 93. He loved to visit with friends and family, to dance enthusiastically, and to play slots at casinos. He enjoyed traveling and took Barbara to Hawaii, Ireland, Austria, and Australia. He took the family on vacations every summer including two World's Fairs. He especially enjoyed his early 100th birthday party in October, 2022.
The family especially thanks Our Family Friends caregivers and Gentiva Hospice for their devotion to Wally.
Mr. Ramp is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a brief prayer service will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 10:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery. Fr. Timothy MacDonald will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the I Love My Community Fund through the Jackson Community Foundation, St. John the Evangelist Parish where Wally was a lifelong member or the charity of your choice.
