Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the age of 92. Virginia was born in Jackson, Michigan, to Floyd and Gertrude Spencer. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, son Tim, and sister Janice Fluehr. She is survived by three sisters: Phyllis Demay, Betty Jo Hendrick, and Jeanne Barrett as well as "sister" Betty Kloack. Also surviving are five children: Dan Mierzwa (Melody), Trudy (Leonard) Yenne, Terry (Sue) Mierzwa, Lynn (Bruce) Jones, and Frank, Jr. (Susan) Mierzwa, along with Jacky Munsey, and many adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Virginia was a graduate of Napoleon High School and a lifelong member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea parish. She held numerous jobs while raising her family and retired from the Michigan Space Center at Jackson Community College.

Virginia's greatest love was her family, and she greatly enjoyed hosting big family dinners on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. Her grandchildren have many happy memories of special birthday lunches and shopping trips with grandma.
She was an active and beloved member of bowling and golf leagues until the age of 90 and made many great friendships through these activities. She also enjoyed numerous senior trips both inside and outside Michigan as well as a monthly gathering with friends to play cards.

Virginia was a strong Irishwoman who lived independently, was quite proud she didn't wear glasses, and continued driving until the end. She had a feisty spirit that allowed her to overcome many challenges throughout her life while always maintaining an optimistic outlook. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for telling jokes.

She will be fondly remembered for her "I'm fine!" response to any question about her health no matter what issues she might have been facing, even uttering those famous words the day before her passing. Indeed, she remains truly fine now that she is finally reunited with her beloved Bicey and Tim.
