Virginia P. May, age 98, passed into eternity Oct 22, 2014 at Vista Grande Villa Care Center, Jackson, MI. Virginia was born April 25, 1916 in Jackson, MI, the daughter of Edwin and Ethel Lloyd. Virginia married Arthur Frederick November 25, 1938. They raised a family of four children, James, Brian, Marcia and Linda in Allegan, MI where Virginia also taught math in the junior high school for more than 25 years. Virginia was preceded in death by her son, Brian in 1975, and husband Art in 1978. She married John May in 1980 and he preceded her in 1996.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son James (Linda), daughters Marcia in Chicago, and Linda in Jackson, four Grandchildren: James A. Frederick(Lorinda), Melissa Sabri(Sehbaz), Amanda Frechette(Michael) and Michael Frederick; and thirteen great grandchildren: Hannah Collins(Daniel), Elizabeth, Caleb, Sarah Sabri; Megan, Virginia Kate, James B. Frederick; Lindsey, Gabriel, Abigail Frechette; Baxter, Gavin and Lanae Frederick.
Virginia was a native of Jackson and graduated from JHS, JCC, EMU, and WMU. She loved golf and won the Jackson City Ladies Championship in '32 & 33 at 16 & 17 years old. She was also club champion at Ot-Well-Egan CC in Allegan on numerous occasions. She was a thespian in college and later a community player in Allegan.
She enjoyed cards and was an avid bridge player. She continued playing bridge and 65 with her friends at Vista Grande. She also enjoyed knitting and created hundreds of hats and mittens for school children in Jackson and doilies/dish cloths for her friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Michigan Cancer Society, Allegan Dollars for Scholars, Hospice Advantage or a charity of one's choice.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Vista Grande Villa Grande Room on Saturday November 1, 2014 at 2pm. Pastor Edrye Maurer officiating.
