Sarata (Schultz), Valerie
age 61 of Jackson, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2017 under the loving care of her daughters, sister, and Great Lakes Hospice. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Doris Schultz; two children, James and Marlina Sarata; and one granddaughter Britney Head. She is survived by daughters, Trina (Ernie) Head, Gina (Kyle Jones), Sabrina (Jaime Vowels), Christina (Richie Gieske); two siblings, Vicki (Arnold) Hicks and Mike (Diane) Schultz; her grandchildren, Chance, James Robert, Caden, Ashton, Hazyl and Reed; nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews. She also had 3 very special life long best friends Sue Healy, Cyndi Tripp, and Kathy Lavan.
Valerie was a graduate of Northwest High School and later pursued a degree in Criminal Justice that led to her occupation of a Corrections Officer and retiring in 2011 after 22 years of service. Valerie was loved by everyone who ever met her. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and friend. Her humor would have you laughing for days. She was the master of putting others first, taught her children to be kind to everyone, tolerate and love the underdog the most. Valerie always welcomed everyone into her home and made sure she shared her love of cooking by never sending you home hungry, and everyone loved taco night at moms house.
Valerie was an avid football fan, she loved Tom Brady although she was not a fan of him attending Michigan. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and loved to talk on the phone with her lifelong friend, Sue Healy. In her down time she enjoyed watching her two favorite movies, Four Brothers and Remembering the Titans, as well as Lifetime movies and she never missed the Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune and her Favorite summer show Big Brother. She will always be remembered as the friend you could talk with about anything for hours, the mother who suffered tragedy yet overcame it with the help and love of her surviving children and great friends, the grandmother that embraced each grandchild's different personalities and taught them to respect and love everyone in a way they will never forget, now she is the angel in heaven who will watch over us all forever until we are reunited in the afterlife.
Valerie is at the Desnoyer Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, June 15 at 10:00 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10:30 AM with Father James Shaver officiating. Private interment at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
