Benner, Timothy
Tim Benner passed away on April 23, 2020, with his family by his side, after losing his battle with cancer. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he retired in 2017 as a software engineer, but his passions and talents went far beyond his work. Those who knew him enjoyed his eclectic taste in music—from Sinatra to Snoop, from Bartok to Bowie—which he proudly passed on to his sons. If it had wheels, he worked on it, built it, drove it, rode it, found joy in it. Above all, he was the best husband and father anyone could ask for.
Tim is survived by his wife, Laurie McCullough-Benner; their sons, Colin McCullough-Benner (Rasa Davidaviciute) and Jon McCullough-Benner (Jamie Yu); siblings Ron (Peggy) Benner, Joan Welsh (Pat Mayes), Matt (Bonnie) Benner, and Sharon Schmittlein; mother-in-law Linda McCullough; siblings-in-law Joan (Doug) Langmeyer, Jeff (Annette) McCullough; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Tim's compassionate cancer care was led by Dr. Devin Malik and Dr. Annette Kretzler. Tim was especially appreciative of the care he received from the Beam Team, who always had his back.
Tim's family would like to thank those who cared for him after his heart attack in 2016: the on-call cath lab team and ICU team at Henry Ford Allegiance Health and especially Dr. Bischan Hassunizadeh and Dr. Rajendra Hasmukhrai Mehta. We, like Tim, will always be grateful for our 1,251 bonus days.
Memorial services will be announced later, when those who loved Tim can safely be together to celebrate his life.
Instead of sending flowers, contributions to the Cascades Humane Society would be appreciated.
