Powers, Thomas Richard Sr.
He was born January 15, 1929 and joined his beloved wife, Jean Ann in the Eternal Kingdom on Thursday, July 26, 2018 while reciting The Devine Mercy Chaplet with family. He was under the loving care of Heartland Hospice and his family. Tom is survived by his children, Timothy (Susan), Theodore (Bonnie), Terrance (Carrie), Tammy (Michael) Swartz, and Todd (Karen); daughter-in-law, Sue Alice; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Besides Jean, he was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Viola; brothers and sisters, Robert, James, Donald, John, Barbara Sponsler and Ann Ordway; son, Thomas R. Powers, Jr.; and grandson Nathan Thomas Swartz.
Tom was a sweet and gentle soul. He was a multi-talented man. He was an entrepreneur and ran several successful businesses throughout the years, including barbering well into his 80's. He had a green thumb. He raised prize winning chickens and show geese for years. He was an artist and made beautiful pictures and furniture that he gifted to his loved ones. He kept gorgeous aquariums too, but he and Jean's marriage was all about Jesus and family. Tom was a devoted husband and father, but he also had a servant's heart. He would cut the boys hair at the St. Joseph Orphanage on a regular basis and bonded with them. He volunteered with Saint Vincent de Paul and he was the founding Grand Knight for St. John the Evangelist Parish Council No. 8392. Tom and Jean were active in the Cursillo movement and were part of a Charismatic Prayer group, consecrated with Jesus through Mary and participated in the Eucharist Adoration for many years. They touched hearts and minds and led people to their Lord and Savior. The world is a better place because they were such a powerful influence on all of us who where blessed to be a part of their lives. We are forever grateful.
