"My wonderful husband, best buddy, and hero to the end, passed away in our home Sunday, April 2nd. By his side were myself, our daughters (Samantha Hunt and Kelsey Snell), son-in-law (Stephen Snell) and granddaughter (Shayla Snell). Tom courageously battled his brain cancer (Glioblastoma) for three years until finally it was time for our Lord to call him home. He was welcomed in heaven by his father (Harold Hunt), my parents (Dan and Florence Spurr), along with his three siblings (Sharie Mitchell, Paula Lefere, and Tim Hunt).
Tom had a love for nature, science, and teaching. He began his 41 year teaching career at Jackson Catholic Middle School and soon moved to Jackson High School where he taught Chemistry and Physics. Tom was Head of the Science Department, Senior Advisor, as well as Robotics Coach and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2018.
Due to the combined circumstance of Covid and his diagnosis, Tom and I were able to retire together. During that time, he saw our daughter get married, enjoyed being "Grandpa", traveled to Rhode Island, Gatlinburg, and northern Michigan, and spent plenty of quality time with family and friends.
Being the true science teacher he was, Tom's wish was to donate his body to the U of M Medical School where he will continue to provide an educational experience to students. (Unfortunately, they will be Wolverines and not Spartans.
As per his request, a Celebration of Life will be held when the weather is warmer. Friends and Family will be welcome to come share memories/stories and laughs as we remember the wonderful ways Tom touched our lives.
