Thomas “Gus” Dwyer passed away on June 21, 2026. Tom was born on June 1, 1942 to William and Angela Dwyer. He was the third of eleven children. He was a life-long resident of Jackson, Michigan. As a child, he was given the nickname “Gus” by his grade school friends. This nickname stayed with him for the duration of his life. Tom graduated from St. John Catholic High School in Jackson, Michigan in 1960. Tom was an accomplished high school athlete receiving varsity letters in five sports and received all-state recognition in football and basketball. He graduated from Jackson Community College, and also graduated Magna Cum Laude from Michigan State University. Tom furthered his education at Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. Tom was employed at City Bank in Jackson, Michigan, where he became Senior Vice President and Senior Loan Officer of the bank and its holding company, CB Financial Corporation. He was a member of the Fraternal Organization of Business Scholars and Businessmen Beta Gamma Sigma. He was honored to serve the Jackson community and to assist many businesses with bank loans and financial counseling. Tom was a member of the City of Jackson Local Development Company and was recognized by his peers as a leader in commercial lending and was elected president of the Michigan Chapter of Robert Morris Associates. After retiring from the bank, Tom took a “short term” assignment at Scott Machine in Jackson which lasted 25 years.

Tom served in the United States Army Reserve. While on active duty, he was the Honor Graduate of his military training school. He was an avid golfer, a tournament player in his younger years, and a 40 plus year golf clubmaker and repairman. He was also a member of the Professional Clubmakers Society. Tom was an active member of Arbor Hills Country Club in Jackson, Michigan.

Tom was married to his high school sweetheart Kathleen Torpy in August of 1966. They were married for 29 years, and together they raised three children: Matthew (Pamela), Marcy (Nicholas), and Michelle. He was very proud of the success and accomplishments of his three children and grandchildren: Connor Dwyer (Abigail), Emma Giese (Britt), Keagan Dwyer, Annakate Dwyer, Caitlyn Wolfcale, Anthony Dent, Dominic Dent, Maria Dent and great grandchildren Carson and Nina Dwyer, Emmitt Giese, and Iley Wolfcale. Tom later married Sandra Meredith in May of 1999. They enjoyed their life together until her passing in April of 2024. Much of their time was spent keeping up with the activities of their many grandchildren along with spending part of each winter with friends in Sebring, Florida. He is survived by his brothers James (Mary), Michael (Barbara), Patrick (Liz), Daniel (Connie), David (Diane), and sister Margaret Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Angela, and brothers William, Tim (Carol), and sisters Mary (Joe) Raushenberger, and Anna Dwyer. 

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Jackson, Michigan with Father Randy Koenigsknecht officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 6:30 PM. The family will also receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM. 

Instead of sending flowers, contributions to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church would be appreciated.
