Coutu, Thomas E, "Bopa"
74, of Jackson passed away under the loving care of his family and the staff at Henry Ford Hospital on Thursday, November 2, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann; his daughter Crissy (Jim) Stark, and son Tommy (Carrie); four grandchildren, Gaige Coutu, Carson, Marisa, and Bryn Stark. Also surviving are sister, Sandra Vought, special nieces the Vought girls (Marti, Cindy, Lori, Trish) and nephews Jim & Mike Coutu, Chuck, Tim, & Todd Debruler, Scott Schied, Brian Laberteaux, Valerie Rice, sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law Susie Coutu, Kay Schied, Russ (Mary Ellen) Laberteaux, David Laberteaux, and special friends Bill and Sandy Fry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo & Z. Lucielle Coutu, sister, Marlene Debruler, and brother, Leo D. Coutu, sisters-in-law Margaret Laberteaux, brothers-in-law, Donald Vought, Charlie DeBruler, & Richard Schied.
Thomas was born on November 24, 1948, in Jackson, MI. He graduated from Michigan Center High School in 1967. He proudly served in the United States Army and retired from the State of Michigan in 2001. Thomas was an avid hunter, bass fisherman, and outdoor enthusiast. Tom could be found on the lakes bass fishing and racing his boat to get to his favorite fishing spots. He enjoyed trips up-north with family and friends as well as going to the family cottage in Harrison. Tom enjoyed riding snowmobiles and racing dune buggies and ATV's. He loved going to Silver Lake. Tom was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle. He was hard working, a handyman willing to help anyone out, but most importantly he loved spending time with his family.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will have a celebration of life.
In lieu of sending flowers, contributions can be made to University of Michigan's Pediatric Diabetes research.
