Theodore "Ted" John Powers

Theodore John “Ted” Powers of Eaton Rapids (formerly of Jackson), passed away under the loving care of his family and friends on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at the age of 74 years. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel (Jimmy) Warner and their children: Gavin (Allison), Mya, Cooper, Josie, Bodhi, and Riplee; great granddaughter, Hendryx; brothers: Tim (Sue), Todd (Karen), and Terry (Sarah); sister, Tammy (Mike) Swartz; sister in law, Sue Powers; and his special friends, Tracy and Becky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Jean Powers and his wife, Bonny.

Ted had a deep passion for music that filled every part of his life. Whether he was playing the harmonica, guitar, saxophone, or singing from his heart, he had a special gift for bringing joy and connection through music. He found peace and inspiration in nature.

Family was the center of his world. Ted loved wholeheartedly and lived for his family, especially his daughter and grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He was someone you could talk to about anything. He listened without judgment, offered wisdom when it was needed, and always made those around him feel loved and accepted.

Ted was dedicated to helping others through Alcoholics Anonymous, where he proudly chaired meetings and offered hope, encouragement, and support to countless people on their journeys. His strength, honesty, and willingness to serve made a lasting difference in many lives.

Ted also served his community through his work with the Michigan Department of Corrections, where he carried himself with integrity and dedication. He will always be remembered for his contagious laugh, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a way of making people smile, lifting spirits, and filling every room with warmth and life.

Though he will be deeply missed, his love, music, laughter, and the countless lives he touched will continue to live on. His legacy is one of compassion, resilience, generosity, and unconditional love.

He loved plants and flowers and appreciated the beauty and serenity of God's creation. His spirituality and deep connection to others guided the way he lived-with compassion, understanding, and kindness. In the later years of his life, he found his way back to the Catholic Church, embracing his faith with renewed purpose and gratitude. His relationship with God became an important source of strength, peace, and hope, enriching both his own life and the lives of those around him.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Jacob Derry officiating. A private interment will be held at St. John Catholic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Thursday, July 30 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:30 PM. The family will also receive friends at St. John’s Church from 10:30 to 11:00 AM on Friday, July 31.

Instead of sending flowers, contributions to the Eaton Rapids AA Group would be appreciated.

We will forever cherish his memory and strive to honor the beautiful example he set. We are profoundly grateful for the life he lived and the love he gave so freely.
