VanderVeen, Stephen H.
Of Jackson, passed away under the loving care of his wife and his children on Monday, January 27, 2025 age 83 years. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Phyllis; sons, Stephen S. "Scott" (Tina) VanderVeen, Christopher M. (Julie) VanderVeen and Andrew P. (Nicole) VanderVeen; grandchildren, Ashley, Mandi, Isaac, Lila, Elijah and Luke; several great grandchildren; and his sister in law, Mary Ann VanderVeen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Alice and his brother, Patrick.
Stephen served in the United States Marine Corps. Reserves, showcasing a life long commitment to his country. His military training instilled in him, a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.
Stephen's faith was central to his life. He was actively involved in his church Queen of the Miraculous Medal, often volunteering for events and lending a helping hand wherever needed.
As an avid golfer, Stephen cherished countless weekends spent on the greens with friends and family. His love for the sport wasn't just about winning. It was about building meaningful connections and making lasting memories with those he loved.
His passion for community service extended to his work with the Jackson County Food Pantry, where he devoted, countless hours to help those in need. Stephen believed in the importance of giving back often sharing his experience, and encouraging others to join him in making a difference. His kindness and generosity impacted many lives, reflecting on his genuine spirit.
Stephen is remembered not just for his contributions to the community but for his role as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. We will forever cherish the memories of our family gatherings filled with laughter, and his unwavering support through every chapter of our lives
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. A private interment will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that the donations be made to the Jackson County Food Pantry in his memory.
Rest in peace, Stephen. You will be greatly missed.
