Babcock, Stanley J.
Of Jackson, passed away peacefully at his home under the loving care of his family and Allegiance Hospice on Sunday, April 21, 2013, age 96 years. He is survived by his son, Thomas (Marcia) Babcock; grandchildren, Mark (Jacqui) of Alto, Michigan, Craig of Jackson, Douglas (Kimberly) of Dexter, Laura (Tyler) Swartout of Horton and Matthew (Krisstina) of Jackson. Stan enjoyed his ten great-grandchildren, Cody, Brian, Rebecca, Andrew, Zachary, Paige, and Joshua Babcock, Tristan and Talia Swartout, and Madisson Bates; several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Judith Converse and her sons, Brian (Lisa) and Dennis (Crystal). He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen (Heath); his parents, Edward and Georginna (Furgeson) Babcock; his brother, Stuart (Lillian) Babcock; and his sister, Beverly (Carroll) Johnson.
Stan proudly served his country as a Sargent in the 1394th Engineering Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from the Jackson High School in 1934 and earned a living at Frost Gear, Clark Equipment, and Way Baking Company for 32 years. Stan was a long time member of St. John's Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St.Vincent dePaul. He was a small man who cast a large shadow. Integrity and humor were his personal attributes that served him well his entire life. God Bless you, God speed Grandpa Stan. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father James Shaver officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM. The family will also receive friends at St. John's Church on Thursday from 10 to 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers contributions to St. John's Church or to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital would be appreciated.
