Kops, Shirley M.
Age 82, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 8, 2016. She was born in Muskegon to Joseph and Rhea (Bodenberg) Popelar. She is survived by her 2 sons, Herbert B. (Mary) Kops of Jackson, MI and Rick A. (Cathy) Kops of Niles, MI; 4 grandchildren, Eric (Julia), Ryan, Kristin and Mitchell; great grandchild, Roman; sister, Nancy O'Toole and brother, Joseph (Helen) Popelar; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Jean Kingshott.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Muskegon until moving near family in Jackson during 2008 following the death of her husband, Herbert E. Kops, whom she married on September 9, 1950. She received a Diploma from the Vanity Beauty School and worked as a beautician for several years. Later she received an Associates in Arts degree from Muskegon Community College. Shirley worked as the Transportation Inbound Coordinator for Quality Stores, Inc., directing movements and delivery of store merchandise for over 20 years before retiring in 1995. Shirley was known for simply enjoying life with those around her including the staff and residents at her Arbor North home. She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, fishing, playing cards, singing and most of all dancing.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 17 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1505 W. Michigan Ave, Jackson, MI 49202 with Pastor David Eidson officiating. Cremation to follow the service.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home, 204 N. Blackstone Street, Jackson, MI 49201 on Thursday from 4-7pm and on Friday from 10:30-11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
