Wheeler, Robert Earl
After a long and valiant battle with lung cancer, and lovingly surrounded by his family, Robert Earl Wheeler entered peacefully into eternal life on January 4th, 2025, at his home in Jackson, MI. Earl was born August 2nd, 1946, in Black Mountain, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Ruth Wheeler, and brother Jackie Wheeler, all of Black Mountain.
He is survived by his wife Christine, his son, Jim (Dodi) Wheeler, and his three grandchildren Jack, Adam, and Allison all of Jackson; his sister, Gail (Glenn) Freirich; sister-in-law Vickey Wheeler, both also of North Carolina, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Earl was a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Army. From a young age Earl was a car enthusiast and began a 40-year career in the auto industry starting in Jackson, MI as a salesman, then a manager, and ultimately became owner of his own dealership in Nashville, TN. He continued to sell cars in some capacity until his retirement in 2006 when he returned to Michigan to become a full-time grandfather. Earl loved golfing, NASCAR races, and football – he could be found each Saturday and Sunday watching his friendly wagers play out during the season. He also was an avid gardener and did not hesitate to share his knowledge and "expertise" with his family. However, his greatest loves were his grandchildren. Despite the limitations of his illnesses, Pawpaw attended every school and athletic event that he could. He was also instrumental in the Catholic education of his grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church with Father Timothy MacDonald officiating. A private interment will be held at St. John Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Queen's Church on Wednesday, January 8 from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Queen of the Miraculous Medal Elementary School would be appreciated.
