Robert D. Waters, 84, of Jackson, died June 28th, 2014 surrounded by his family after a valiant six week battle with cancer. Bob, son of Frances and Ira Waters, lived many happy years of his childhood in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Bob was the loving husband of Irene (nee McArthur) and they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on July 14, 2014. He is survived by his wife and five children: Jeanne, Glenn (Debra), Dean, Donna (Mike) O'Connell, and Keith (Theresa). He is also survived by six grandchildren: Sarah, Susan and Shane O'Connell and Allison, Colleen and Jack Waters. In addition he is survived by brother in-law Lyle (Mickey) McArthur, sister in-law Doris (Jim Quainton) McArthur and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother Kenneth Waters.
Bob worked for 30 years as a licensed electrician for Consumers Power until his retirement in 1991. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of American Legion Post 29 in Jackson. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and long-time treasurer of the Round Table Group. During his retirement Bob's numerous activities included past president of a local chapter of AARP, a ten year volunteer at Allegiance hospital, and an avid golfer and bowler. He had a passion for vegetable gardening, "U.P." pasties, and attending Lumen Christi High School football games.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and loyal dog Maggie. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday July 2nd at 1 PM. Interment will take place at Roseland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Desnoyer Funeral Home of Jackson between 4 - 8 on Tuesday July 1st and from 12 - 1 at the church prior to the service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Allegiance Hospice Home of Jackson or First United Methodist Church. A special thank you to the compassionate and caring staff of Hospice Home.
