RICHARDS, ROBERT L.

Of Jackson passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 age 86 years. Survived by his loving wife Frances. Three sons; Dr. David and his wife Dr. Ann Collins Richards, Thomas and his wife Becky Penive Richards, Dr. Philip and his wife Kathy Riggs Richards. Two grandson; Kevin (Amy) Richards, Brian Richards. Three granddaughters; Dr. Corinne (Geoffrey) Zawacki, Leslie (Ricardo) Valdes and Colleen Richards. Great granddaughter, Leila Rose Richards. Former wife and mother of his three sons, Emily French Richards. Mother in law Virginia Zimmerman. Brothers and sisters in law and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his sister Helen Medendorp. Robert was a US Army Air Force Veteran of WWII achieving the grade of 1st Lt. as a Fourth Air Force B24 Bombardier. Robert was employed in Safety and Personnel Administration at the American Seating Company in Grand Rapids and Consumers Energy Company. He enjoyed Golfing, Tennis, Cross Country Skiing and sailing on the Great Lakes and Straits of Mackinaw as well as Torch, Higgins and Clark Lakes. He was especially pleased with the career achievements of his sons and their wives and with the academic and athletic achievements of his grandchildren. One of his greatest pleasures was watching his grandsons excel in hockey, baseball and golf and his granddaughters in golf, tennis, basketball, soccer, volleyball, dance and figure skating. According to his wishes Mr. Richards has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2011, 1:00 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
