Moles, Robert Lee
Of Jackson passed away on August 3, 2025, surrounded by his family, whom he treasured. Those whose lives he touched are better for having known him.
Bob was born in Battle Creek, MI on August 15, 1941. He graduated from Western Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 and a Master of Arts in 1970. Hired by Jacobson Stores, Inc. while still a student, he spent 38 years with the company, advancing to become Senior Vice President of operations. He then worked for Joseph Beth Book Sellers and the Michigan Theatre before "retiring" to become a personal trainer. By combining his lifelong passion for fitness and personal growth with a gift for building relationships, he inspired the love and loyalty of many clients, who counted him as a dear friend and father figure.
Bob was committed to strengthening his community and making the public schools better for all students. His talent for improving operational efficiency served well during his tenures on the boards of Jackson Public Schools and the Intermediate School District.
Bob's family meant the world to him. When he and his beloved Betty Jean married on April 1, 1977, their two families became the unified family that was the joy of his life. He and Betty created their home as a place of welcome for all: From holidays and "Grandpa Swim Night" to watching Michigan football and Detroit Tigers games together, Bob was devoted to his crew and happiest when surrounded by them.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lee Moles and Marion Moles Hocott.
In addition to many nieces, nephews and cousins in Battle Creek, extended family in Kentucky, and many cherished friends and loved ones, Bob is survived and will be deeply missed by Betty and three generations of their family: Their children, John (Lisa) Moles, James Moles, Betsy Hardwick, Jean (Kent) Macfarlane and Michael (Tamyra) Macfarlane. Their grandchildren: Bryan (Heather), Andy, Katie, Samantha, Jacob (Heather), Greg (Lauren), Ian (Kari), Hayden, Jacob (Amanda) and Jordan. And their great-grandchildren Alyssa, Kaylee, Austyn, Macy, Noah, Levi, Isabella and the newest addition, baby Noah.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will welcome friends and loved ones at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 12 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The family will hold a private celebration of his life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Michigan Theater would be appreciated.
