Robert Henning passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023. Bob wore many crowns. He was born March 2, 1930, in Quincy, IL. GOD favored him with wonderful parents, Muriel and Raymond Henning. He grew up in IL., KY., and IA., and graduated from Davenport High School in Iowa in 1947.
He enlisted in the US Navy in 1948 and served aboard the USS Albany as a radioman. He attended the University of Louisville, then moved to Flint, MI. to be a salesman for Swift & Co. He joined MetLife in 1955 and served his clients until 2013.
Bob married Allie Mae in 1953 and, of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. They had a son Greg (deceased 1977) and a daughter, Patricia (Earl) Miller. They adored their two grandchildren Jason (Jessica) Miller and Sara (Michael) Green, and their great-grandchildren, Phoebe and Bodie Miller, and Brooklyn and Harper Green. He loved their Brazilian daughter Vera, and Brazilian son, Luiz, who were foreign exchange students through Rotary that stayed with Bob and Allie Mae. Vera and Luiz are family. Bob outlived his two sisters, Beverly King and Marcia Schultz.
He sang as a boy soprano in glee club at age 8 and was paid 50 cents every Sunday.
Bob wore the crown of a Christian Businessman. He was a 20-year member of South Jackson Community Church and served on their Board of Directors for many years. He was the church treasurer for over 5 years and was on the Salvation Armory Advisory Board for over 44 years. He also served Rotary International for over 46 years, being Club President 4 times and District Governor in 1993-1994. He led a caravan of 14 vehicles from Michigan through Mexico to Belize, where they gave school buses, fire trucks and a bookmobile to the Rotary Club of Corozal, then flew back home. He served on the Supervisory Committee for American One Credit Union, and he was active at the Dahlem Conservancy and the Jackson College Foundation. Bob loved to watch Michigan State and Michigan Football and Basketball.
Bob lived by a motto: "If I have a thousand friends, I've not a friend to spare, but if I have one enemy, I'll meet him everywhere."
He left this life for eternal life in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
