Of Jackson passed away under the loving care of his family and the staff at the Allegiance Hospice Home on Sunday, January 18, 2015. He was born on April 9, 1926 in Detroit. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ellen; three children, Robert (Cathy) Frounfelker Jr., Sue (Jim) Kalahar, Jim (Jeanie) Frounfelker; six grandchildren, Andy and Jeff Frounfelker,Maggie (Brian) McDonough, Molly Kalahar, Jacob and Jenna Frounfelker; one sister, Marilyn Lafferty; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his two infant children, Mary Jo and Daniel, and his brother Frank.
Bob graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology as an Electrical Engineer followed by his service on the U.S.S. Cleveland with the U.S. Navy during WWII. His career was a Loss Control Engineer with Sentry Insurance. Bob was a founding member of Queen's Conference of St. Vincent de Paul in 1955. He was active in the Cursillo movement and a volunteer for the Jackson County Medical Care Facility for over 30 years. He enjoyed playing pool, playing the guitar, fishing, and golf but most importantly he was devoted to helping the needs of the poor.
According to his wishes, Bob has been cremated. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 22 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with Father Tim MacDonald officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-8 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM.
