Robert Clayton Braun Sr.
of Jackson, passed away at home under the loving care of his family on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Bob was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Jean; his parents August and Rose (Schwemle) Braun; brothers Fred, Harold, and George; sisters Barbara, Christine, and Gertrude. He is survived by 9 children; Bob (Mary Jo) Braun, Linda (Mike) Kanser, Karen (Greg) Wright, Bill (Shari) Braun, Mark Braun, Susie Mohney, Lori Aronoff, Janet (Lee) Brown, and Jody (Bob) Smilowski; 15 grandchildren: Mike (Becka) Kanser and Robert Kanser; Caitlin (Jake) Wright and Kelley Wright; Emily, Sarah (Jimmy) Mohney, Sam, Amanda, and Steve Mohney; Angie Sawyer, Madeline (Marc) Veneberg, and Alex Brown; Lauren Aronoff; and Scott and Mara Smilowski; 2 great-grandchildren Ronan and Vivienne Brown; several nieces and nephews.
During World War II Bob joined the Navy and was sent to U.S.C. He trained and served as a Navy pilot and navigator in the Pacific. In 1960 he and his wife Jean opened Braun's Home Furnishings where many customers became life long friends. He enjoyed traveling the world with Jean, spending time with his family, and being the self proclaimed "Mayor of Woodville." He enjoyed watching all sports, especially when his grandchildren played. We will remember his stories, his sense of humor, and his big heart.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 31st at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 10:30 AM with Father Timothy MacDonald as the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Monday, January 30th, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. The family will also receive friends at Queen's Church, prior to the Mass, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Queen's Church or Lumen Christi Catholic School would be appreciated. The family would like to thank Allegiance care givers Lakisha & Clotese. Special thanks to Dr. Robert Robertson D.O. and Corine Williams for the many years of compassionate care they provided to both Bob and Jean.
