Richard James "Jim" Wagner
Passed into eternal life Wednesday, November 2, 2011. Born January 5, 1926, to Caroline and Raymond Wagner who preceded him in death, along with his sisters, Doris Reinoehl, and Marjorie Larsson, and beloved son-in-law Timothy W. Dwyer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gertrude "Trudy" Wagner. Three daughters: Teresa (Larry) Graetz, Carol Dwyer and Sharon Partin and fiancé Michael. Son: Thomas and love Susan. Together Jim and Trudy enjoyed their seven grandchildren: Brandon, Stephen, Matthew, Erin, Ryan, Jessica and Kristen; Fourteen great grandchildren, several nieces, one nephew and several cousins.
Raised on a farm near Cassopolis, Michigan, Jim left home at seventeen to volunteer for Naval service during World War II. He served proudly aboard the USS Topeka in the South Pacific theater as an engine mechanic before his honorable discharge to civilian life. After completing his education at Alma College, Jim settled in Jackson, opening Wagner's Standard Service at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Orange Street, which would be the first of his four service stations located throughout the Jackson area. He was known by all his customers as an honest, hard working business man retiring in 1984 after 35 years in business.
An accomplished carpenter, Jim built two homes where he and Trudy raised their family, with the last 20 years spent at their Lake Columbia home. Jim's interest included fishing, boating and golf. In his varied roles as patriot, businessman, son, brother, husband, father, and grandparent, Jim was unselfish with his time, his knowledge, and his love. Rest in peace with your Heavenly Father. We will always love you.
