Richard Daniel Duty of Spring Arbor, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2024, at 89. He was an avid storyteller who enjoyed sharing memories of the past with those he loved. He often retold his favorites with clear and vivid detail. He enjoyed spending time with his family and listening to Southern gospel music. Richard retired from Wolverine Metal/Randall Textron in 2003 after 40 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wesley and June Duty and Miles and Cora May Cole; his parents, Lee and Luella Duty; and his siblings, Robert Duty and Florence Miller. Also proceeding him in death were his mother and father-in-law, Willis and Hester Sexton; brothers-in-law, Darrel Hankins, Nyle Ruppert, Paul Sexton, and Roger Sexton; sisters-in-law, Cleo Sexton and Josephine Sexton.

Richard is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Duty, of 60 years, whom he loved deeply and greatly respected her compassion and strength, especially during the past few years when she cared for him. With a strong faith and dedicated prayer life, Richard overcame many odds during his lifetime, increasing his commitment to God.

Richard is also survived by his three daughters, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren with whom he was very proud: Sharon (Mike) Norris, Theresa (Don) Messacar, Lisa (Kevin) Carey, Andrea (Jim) Marx, Ashley (Paul) Klein, Caleb Messacar, Elliot Carey, Wyatt Carey, Mariah Messacar, Sadie Marx, Arlo Marx and Levi Klein. He is also survived by two sisters, Ardella Barnard, and Joyce Sexton, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Richard chose cremation, and a private graveside Christian burial will take place at the Spring Arbor Township Cemetery on May 2, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Richard to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. This gift will bring hope to children fighting cancer and other diseases, a cause that he sincerely believed in.
