Cummings, Richard L. "Dick"
A lifelong Jackson resident, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at the age of 89 years under the loving care of his family and the staff at the Bethany Home. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Ann Cummings; son, Charles (Rachel); three grandchildren, Kelsey, Edward, and Richard; brothers, Leo and Bernard; sister, Kathleen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Rose; his first wife, Jeannine; sisters, Rosemary, Rita, and Teresa; and brothers, Thomas, Francis, Paul, James, and Matthew.
Richard was born to Matthew and Rose Cummings and was one of twelve brothers and sisters. Richard was a master plumber for 40 years, working for and running the family business that his father Matt started in 1917. He worked with his brothers until 1980 and became sole proprietor until his retirement in 1994. He belonged to local 333 plumbers and pipefitters. Richard graduated from St. John's High School class of 1949. He then served his county from 1951-1953 in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Jeannine L. Stevens in July 1970 until she passed away in 1999. Love shined on him again when he married Mary Ann McCluskey in 2001. Richard enjoyed spending his time golfing and bowling. On any given day in his retirement he could be found having coffee at Target. Richard also enjoyed taking trips to ship reunions and meeting old shipmates. He was a volunteer for Jackson meal service, member of the VFW, and a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 11:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. James Shaver officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
Instead of sending flowers, contributions to the Jackson Interfaith Shelter would be appreciated.
