Holda, Richard Anthony "Richie"
age 76, died surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Richie was born on September 25, 1934 to Vincent and Myra Holda. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School and was a decorated Korean War Veteran, including the Purple Heart. He married Jeanne Louise Duffy on October 10, 1959 and they raised three children together. Richie retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service. Richie was a member of the VFW, DAV and PLAV. He enjoyed cooking and was recognized by his family and friends as the king of the kitchen. Richie is survived by his wife Jeanne of 51 years, his three children, Steven (Sabine), Scott and Marcie (William) Shoemaker; 6 grandchildren, Jacob, Katie and Nicholas Holda, and Zeb, Rubie and Grace Shoemaker; brothers, Donald (Margie) Holda of Michigan City, IN, Kenneth (Martha) Holda of Gallatin, TN, and his sister Jeanette (Paul) Tate of Jamestown, NY, numerous nieces and nephews. Richie was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Eugene, Norbert, Jerry, Edwyn and his special aunt, Christine Kotarski. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. According to his wishes, Richie has been cremated. "Semper Fi".
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 9:30 to 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Mass of Christian Burial will start at 11:00 am. The Reverend Father James Shaver will be the celebrant. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. John Catholic Church or St. Luke's Free Clinic.
