Passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the age of 87, in the comfort of his own home, where he lived for more than 50 years. Ray was the husband (58 years) of Blanch "Babs" Hengesbaugh, who preceded him in death on April 11, 2008. Ray's greatest joys were his children, his rides through the countryside with Babs, visiting with family, reminiscing about the old days, and the simple pleasures of living in his own home until the Lord called him home.

Ray was born on June 16, 1927 in Jackson to Leo and Lydia Hengesbaugh. He lived his entire life in Jackson, where, together with his mother and two brothers were local business owners. Those ventures included "Trailer Park Village", "Leo's Washmobile", and "Hengesbaugh's Party Store", all located near Michigan Avenue and Dettman. Along with a cousin, they also went on to form "Hengesbaugh Construction", building many single-family homes in Jackson County. Ray was always known for his extremely hard work ethic. He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, and two brothers (Robert and Howard).

Ray is survived by his four children, Thomas Hengesbaugh (Phyllis), Louann Holt, Randy Hengesbaugh (Heidi), and Sharon Elwell (David), 11 grandchildren; Jennifer, Danielle, David K. II, Kelsi, Kaile, Korie, Angie, Donnie, Amy, Mandy, and Jaime; 10 great-grand-children, Breanna, Aaron Jr., Macenzie, Cortney, Brandyn, Alexis, Alec, Carson, Isabella, Elliana.

At his request, cremation has taken place, and a private service will follow.

Ray will be greatly missed, but he has left his family with many precious and loving memories.
