Niekowal (Schweda), Phyllis M.
Of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the age of 100 years. She was born on November 25, 1924 in Jackson to Leon and Blanche Schweda. Phyllis is survived by her children, Susan Wilson (Rob), David Niekowal, Mark Niekowal, Mary Beth West, and Teri Johnston (Don); grandchildren, Kyle, Jamie, Chad, Casey, and Trevor Niekowal, Faith West, Jessica Leffew, and Cortney Johnston; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Mason, Ethan, Lily, Ruby, Juniper, Oliver, and Lucia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Niekowal; parents, Leon and Blanche Schweda; sister, Regina "Gin" Ciesluk; brother-in-law, Edward "Duke" Ciesluk; nephew, Mike Ciesluk; special friends, Betty Sullivan and Pat McCollum.
Phyllis was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church where her faith guided her through her life. Phyllis and her husband John owned and operated John's Party Store in Somerset, Michigan for 27 years.
Many thanks go out to Gentiva Hospice, especially mom's nurse, Cindy for all the excellent care and compassion shown to our mother. Also the great staff at Summit Park Retirement Home.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Tim Nelson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday, February 6 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
In lieu of sending flowers, contributions to St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church would be appreciated.
