McDERMENT, PHYLLIS ELAINE MARTIN VALENTINE

(84) of Jackson, passed quietly away on May 28, 2013 at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born May 26, 1929 in Jackson to the late Frank and Helen Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John McDerment.

She is survived by three children: Rev. F. Michael (Joan) Valentine of Bellefontaine, OH; Trudy M. (Roy) Davey of Jackson; and David A. Valentine of Jackson; one granddaughter, Cassandra E. Valentine of Jacksonville, N.C.; one brother, Phillip C. (Kathleen) Martin of Zephyrhills, FL; two nephews, Terry L. Valentine of Jackson, Dennis D. Valentine of Frankfort, MI; and one niece, Sherry J. (Bill) Carey of Ft. Meyers, FL.

Elaine was graduated from East Jackson High School in 1947. Her working career began at The Dome. She also worked as a cook for East Jackson Junior High School. Later on she worked as ward secretary at Foote Hospital. She then became office manager for Dr. Mustava Oz and Dr. Gerald Maas. She served as well on the Leoni Township Board.

Elaine enjoyed china painting, reading, making crystal jewelry, growing roses, cooking and baking, the company of family and friends, and her two poodles, Daisie and Gracie.

A woman of deep faith, Elaine's spirit was nurtured most under the care of the First Church of God. Her later years, however, were sustained by the good people of Sycamore Baptist Church.

She leaves behind many good friends, but especially, Mrs. Joyce (Tom) Valentine, Diana Aldaco, Laura and Dwayne Fisher, Karen Maas, Lynn Krauss, and Larry and Barb Dull.

A memorial service celebrating her life will take place on Saturday, June 15, 11 a.m., at the Desnoyer Funeral Home. Visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to East Jackson High School (Dome Preservation).
