DeMay, Phyllis
of Jackson passed away peacefully Monday, June 22, 2020 at the age of 96. Phyllis was born in Jackson, Michigan to Gertrude and Floyd Spencer. She joins her sweetheart, William DeMay and children Christine, Kevin, and Collin in Heaven. Phyllis attended Napoleon High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1943. She spent the majority of her service years in Vero Beach, Florida, which she enjoyed immensely. After meeting her sweet, "Willie," the two built the home she lived in for sixty plus years. Phyllis enjoyed relaxing by the lake at "The Point," golfing in various leagues, bowling with her sisters in a league, dance clubs, camping in Pentwater, and traveling the world. Phyllis was a selfless volunteer who dedicated countless hours to the Red Cross, St. Mary's Parish and School, the Jackson Interfaith Shelter, and being the "Class Grandma" at various elementary schools.
She is survived by her children Jodie (David) Schmidt, William (Diane) DeMay, Sue DeMay, Shawn (Pamela) DeMay, Kyle (Deb) DeMay, Kim DeMay (Barry), twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Phyllis was one of "The Spencer Girls." Preceding her in death were her sisters Virginia Mierzwa, Betty Jo Hendrick, and Janice Fluehr. Surviving is her sister, Jeanne Barrett, as well as "sister" Betty Lou Kloack. A special thank you to the staff at Arbor North and Henry Ford Hospice.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Reverend Father Tim Nelson as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
