Crowley, Phillip Edward
of Jackson, Michigan, age 59, died peacefully at home with his family on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. He was born in Jackson on December 8, 1953, the son of James Michael and Helen Crowley. Phil graduated from Lumen Christi High School in Jackson. He began his career at Pioneer Foundry Company in 1973 and spent nearly four decades involved in every aspect of the business, finishing his career as the Production Manager. Phil loved his work and was a proud third-generation "foundryman", following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. Phil was an avid and loyal Michigan State football and basketball fan, and he especially delighted in victories over the Wolverines and the Irish. He treasured his time "up north" with dear friends, enjoying many adventures on the water in Grand Traverse Bay. Phil lived his entire life in Jackson and took great pride in the warmth of the town and friendships built over a lifetime in a small community.
Phil is survived by his sister, Sheila (Max) Wicha of Ann Arbor; nephew, Jason (Jessica) Wicha and great niece Natalie Rose of Chicago; niece, Allyson (Dan) Lewis of Chicago; and brother Michael of Haslett. Phil was dearly loved by a host of family and friends, especially Doug (Ellen), Justin (Tina) and Emily Matz; Linda (Mark) Bunker; Jim Lefere; Bob (Trish) Lefere; and Ted (Angie) Lefere.
A funeral service to celebrate Phil's life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 3:30 pm at the Desnoyer Funeral Home . Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm. Private interment will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family expresses deep gratitude to Dr. Malcolm Trimble and the wonderful staff of Allegiance Health Hematology/Oncology.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Phil's memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Program, University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, Office of Medical Development, 100 Oakbrook Drive, Suite 100, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 48104.
