TRUDELL, PHILIP J.
died suddenly Friday, Oct. 18, at his home in Summit Township. He was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Bay City, MI, the son of John A. and Fern (Salgot) Trudell. Phil grew up and lived most of his life on Hague Road in Summit Township, attending and graduating from St. Mary School in Jackson. He married Judy L. Powell on April 30, 1960.
Phil was an auto mechanic, and for many years owned and operated Trudell's Auto Service, located at the point of First Street and Greenwood Avenue in Jackson. An auto-racing enthusiast, Phil raced stock cars in the Jackson area as a young man and enjoyed watching NASCAR races with his family.
Phil also loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing on a lake, hunting in the woods, or playing outside with his dog, Trampas. He was often occupied with projects around the house, and liked to "putz around" in his garage and tinker with his tractors and golf carts. He also enjoyed spending time up north at a family homestead near Thompsonville, MI.
A devout Catholic, Phil was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He valued his family greatly, and enjoyed hosting the Trudell reunion, an annual gathering that brought together family members from all over Michigan and the United States.
He was caring and giving, and while he seemed to be a man of few words, he had a warm wit and sense of humor that never missed a chance to turn a good pun. He has impacted many lives with his humor, kindness, knowledge and love. Always there with a listening ear and thoughtful advice for anyone who needed it, Phil was a man of honor and integrity, wisdom and insight, with a strength of character that made him a true friend.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy (Powell) Trudell, his daughter Vicki (James) Iseler, son Mark (Marlene), and daughter Sheri (Joseph) Laing; grandchildren Shelby and Maxwell Iseler, Casey Trudell-Reichard, and Gabrielle and Sophia Trudell. Also surviving are siblings John(Theresa), Dave, Dennis (Bernadine), Tom, Jim (Julie), Mike (Mary), Patricia, Mary Anne (Simon) Morris, Christine (Victor) Atherton, Yvonne (Larry Huth), and Tony (Janice); as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Paul, brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Cherie, and special friends Dick Delamater and Roger Harrell.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Tim Nelson officiating. Cremation will follow the Funeral Mass.
