of Jackson passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016. He was 92 years old. Phil was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 24 years, Margaret (Maes) O'Neil, mother Lena (Bassett) O'Neil, father John O'Neil, sister June O'Neil, brother J. Howard (Barbara, deceased) O'Neil, and sister-in-law Juliet (Phil, deceased) O'Connell.
Philip is survived by his sisters Jeanne (Verne, deceased) Curran and Shirley (Jack, deceased) Chesley, and sister-in-law Madeline (Dick) Haynes. Phil and Margaret were blessed with a large extended family of sixteen nieces and nephews on the O'Neil, Curran, Chesley side, and sixteen nieces and nephews on the Haynes, O'Connell side.

Philip graduated from St. John's High School in Jackson, received an Associate's Degree from Jackson Junior College, and attended Loyola University. As a Yeoman First Class in the U.S. Navy, he served his country with honor on the USS Indiana and USS South Dakota in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was a long-standing member of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church and an active supporter and member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Phil was a member of The Knights of Columbus Queen's Council #609. Phil worked over 30 years in finance and accounting for the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors in Lansing, Michigan. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed travel, loved to walk, and could be seen almost daily having lunch or breakfast with his friends.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Sunday, October 9 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM with Rosary Service at 7:30 PM.

A Prayer Service will be held at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Monday, October 10 at 10:00 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 10:30 AM with Father Timothy MacDonald as the celebrant. Internment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, 606 S. Wisner St, Jackson, Michigan 49203, or the IHM Sisters Retirement Fund, 610 W. Elm Ave., Monroe, Michigan 48162.
