Kestner, Paul J

Went to be with The Lord peacefully at home under the care of Allegiance Hospice with his kids by his side on Friday, October 9th, 2020 at the age of 96 years. Preceded in death by spouse of 65 years, Joyce Kestner. Paul is survived by his children, Paula Kestner-Blair, Mike (Mechas) Kestner, Tom (Diane) Kestner, Kathy (Mark) Meyer, Mary (Tim) Kemler, Steve (Pam) Kestner, John (Denise) Kestner, Joan (Todd) Girkins, Joe (Kathryn) Kestner, Liz (Larry deceased) Cvitkovic, Jim Kestner, Maria (Scott) Johnson, Jerry (Claudina) Kestner; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren; very special friend (family) Monica Mercado.

Paul was born in Houghton Michigan in 1924. At age 19 he joined the Army where he was assigned to the 1262 Engineer Combat Battalion and served overseas in Europe during WWII until 1946. Paul graduated from Michigan Tech after returning home from military service. He then married Joyce and they moved to Jackson. Paul had a life long love for music; playing both the piano and the accordian. Paul got a job with Consumers Power Company and completed his 30 plus year career with the organization until his retirement. They moved to Missouri where Paul built 2 homes with the help of his sons and support of spouses. They returned to Jackson 20 years ago where he and Mom lived out the rest of their lives with family close by. Paul was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. We were so blessed to have him for 96 years. We want to thank especially Monica and Hospice for the outstanding care Dad received and most recently for giving us a lifetime memory with the performance of a military medal pinning to recognize Paul for his service in the Army. As was stated at Mom's passing, they had a love story like no other and now they are joined together once again in heaven.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life for his family will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church with Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. Friends are invited to watch the service on Queen's website, www.queenschurch.com or the church's Facebook page.
