McCollum (Wernet), Patricia

Passed away on Valentine's Day. Patricia, the daughter of John and Mary Wernet, was born in Jackson on October 26th, 1924. She met her husband Frank (Mac) at the beginning of World War II and they were married before he entered the Air Force. Upon his return they quickly started their family and had the first of their seven children. Over the course of twenty years, they welcomed Michael McCollum, Marty Broughton (Ken), Ellen McCollum, Tim McCollum (Sandy), Laurie Croft (Fred), Julie Wartella (Mike), and Mary Michaud (Robert) into their loving arms.

Pat's life was centered around her family. She found her joy in being with her family and she especially enjoyed the times when everyone could be together. Birthdays, Christmas, the Fourth of July, and any other time the family gathered were the times that brought the biggest smile to her face. Pat loved to travel, was an avid shopper, loved eating out, spending time chatting with family or friends, her flowers, playing slots in Las Vegas, days on the beach, her weekly hair appointment, and gardening. She was a member of the Jackson Women's Club and Amaranth Club. She graduated from St Mary's and was a parish member until moving into Queen's parish. Pat was also very instrumental in helping start the Lyle Torrent Center after finding very few resources available for parents with a Down Syndrome child.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Mary and John Wernet, her husband Frank, her son Michael, her sisters Margaret (Gene) Riedel and Phyllis (Melvin) Videto, and her brothers Robert (Pat) Wernet and Bernard (Betty) Wernet. In addition to her children, Pat leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Conley, Marcia (Rick) Couturier, Lisa Creech Kemplin, David (Ally) Creech, Ryan Broughton, Sierra, Selena, and Jonathon McCollum, Kirsten (Nick) Areddy, Mack Wartella, Eryn (Jai) Wartella, and Lauren and Nicholas Michaud, along with 10 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren, 32 of her 36 nieces and nephews and her brother in law Melvin Videto. Pat also leaves behind her good friend and caregiver, Stephanie Skonos, who became her "adopted" daughter.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the caregivers at Mission Point Health Campus for the care they provided her over these last few years and to the many friends that made her days brighter by visiting her. A private family service will be taking place followed by a memorial service this summer.

If you wish to make a donation in her honor, please make a donation to the Coleman Foundation. Checks can be mailed to 313 S Church St, Hudson MI 49247.
