Pierce, Oliver James "O.J."
born in Battle Creek on April 16, 1924 died on Sunday, July 24, 2011at the age of 87 years. O.J. was the beloved husband of Agnes for 60 years; father of DeAnna Marie Pierce and Kathleen (Kevin) Marie Pierce-Saunders; grandfather of Meghan, Kyleen, and Patrick Saunders; brother of Elizabeth Ann Morgan, Mary Grace Banks and DeLos M. Pierce (deceased); and uncle and friend to many.
He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked for Consumers Power Company until his retirement in 1986. As an active member of the community, he was an usher at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church, was involved with the festivals and bingo at Lumen Christi, volunteered at St. Vincent dePaul, and was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. O.J. will be missed and loved by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 27 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Desnoyer Funeral Home. A Scripture Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 PM with the Knights of Columbus Chalice Service following the Scripture Service.
A brief Prayer Service will be held on Thursday at the Desnoyer Funeral Home at 12:30 PM followed by the Mass of the Christian Burial at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 1:00 PM. Father Mathias Thelen will be the celebrant at the Mass. Interment will be on Friday, July 29 at 1:00 PM at the Resurrection Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society or Lumen Christi High School.
