Norman Leo Chmielewski, DDS, MS, of Bay City, Michigan passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 in his home at the age of 81 years.
Norman is survived by his wife, Claudia Chmielewski, his children Wendy (James "Taki") Miller, Julie (Steve) Salmen and Michael Chmielewski and three grandchildren, Pearl Miller, Ruby Miller and Mabel Salmen. He also leaves extended family around the Jackson area. Norman is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Stella Chmielewski of Leslie, Michigan and his sister Irene Gaide of Sarasota, Florida.
Norman practiced orthodontics in Bay City, Michigan for over 35 years. He enjoyed getting to know all of his patients and their families. He was also an avid deer hunter as well as being involved in his children's' sports activities, including being an assistant coach on his son's baseball teams. He participated in 4-H and was a 4-H supporter at the county fairs.
In his retirement he enjoyed gardening and working with his family to pick apples every year from the 50 trees in his apple orchard. In addition to gardening, he and Claudia became very active with his dog, Diesel, in dock diving competitions in both Florida and Michigan. He also had a woodshop where he made many different gifts for family and friends.
Friends are welcome for a visitation at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home in Bay City, Michigan on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
There will also be a visitation and service in Jackson, Michigan at Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the 1:00 p.m. funeral service at the Desnoyer Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Pienta officiating. Interment will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Bay County 4-H or a charity of the donor's choice.
