Smith, Norma Palacios
It saddens us to announce the passing of Norma Palacio Smith on Friday, January 5, 2024 at the age of 81.
She passed at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home peacefully surrounded by her loved ones after battling with liver cancer. Norma was a caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by her husband for over 50 years, Sherman Smith; their children, Kerri Hensel, Darius Smith, Aaron (Peachie) Smith; siblings, Anita Greer, Ramonito (Belinda) Gregorio; brother in law Bradley Smith; grandchild, Tiffany (Ricardo Velasquez) Hensel; and great grandchild Sophia Velasquez.
She was preceded in death by her parents Anastacio Gregorio and Pilar Palacios Gregorio; sister, Teresita Gregorio; parents in law Quentin Smith and Eleanore Smith.
Norma was born in Iloilo, Philippines and came to the United States in 1966. She was the one that everyone called for advice, help and comfort. Norma enjoyed being an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She served on the council and ran the Church kitchen feeding members, seniors and youth. As a dedicated hockey mom she was always the loudest cheerleader in the arena. She adored gardening and became a Master Gardener at MSU Hosta College and was a member of the Michigan Hostas Society. She delighted in sewing, camping, traveling, cooking and also loved to spend time creating her homemade recipe books sprinkled with healthy hints, carefully written notes and magazine cutouts.
We as a family want to thank you for letting us know that her eggrolls are famous all across town and have been a center piece at virtually every type of celebration fathomable.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. Cremation will follow the Funeral Mass.
