Macrellis, Michael George
December 29, 1942 - April 30, 2014
Did you hear it—the sound of Michael's booming laughter rolling across heaven? Always one for a party, he was greeted by his mama and papa, John and Anna Macrellis, sisters Bea Caspary and Anne Albright, father-in-law Leonard Gebhardt, and brothers-in-law Richard Reinhart Jr. and Earl Carrier. With self-taught brilliance, he moved through the worlds of woodworking, hunting, fishing, boating and navigation, grilling, home-building, camping, traveling -- and got paid for managing a major manufacturing company during his 32 years with Kent-Moore. He also hung his hat at Michigan Virtual University and Tompkins-Johnson. His camouflage wardrobe blossomed in the National Guard, where he commanded an artillery battery in Charlotte, instructed at the Michigan Military Academy, and retired his fatigues for hunting camo as Captain.
After discovering girls, he left the seminary and decided to surround himself with them, starting with his lovely wife of 43 years, Sue Macrellis and their two daughters, Amy and Heather. His daughters embarked on their own adventures (with men), including marrying Tom Nalepka (Amy) and Joshua Tallis (Heather), and creating Michael's fantastic grandson, Rio Tallis. He was a brave explorer, from the frozen wilds of Sault Sainte Marie where he was born on December 29, 1942, through the waterways of the Great Lakes, to remote Alaska and Africa. One of his last adventures was volunteering for a pioneering clinical trial for treatment of a devastating brain cancer, giving new hope to others with this disease.
Keeping the celebration going are his mother-in-law Roberta Gebhardt, brothers-in-law William (Pat) Albright and Ray (Barb) Caspary, sisters Mary Reinhart and Helen Carrier, sister-in-law Cathy Haldane, and many favorite nieces and nephews.
