Kuras, Michael
Passed away peacefully, Friday June 26, 2015, at one of his favorite places, Big Fish Lake. He fought a long, courageous battle against cancer. Mike is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary, six children: Matt (Holly), Carrie (Chris) Conger, Philip, Patrick, Molly, and Michael, and five grandchildren: Alexis, Nathan, Carter, Zoey, and Benjamin, mother-in-law, Phyllis Dolan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Kate Kuras and his brother, Larry.
Mike served his country proudly as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He worked thirty years for the Michigan Dept. Of Corrections as an officer and later sergeant mainly in the Central Complex at Jackson Prison. Mike loved hunting and fishing, the Red Wings, ND football, candy, and above all, his family. Mike will be sadly missed by his family and friends, and will always be remembered as a fair man who "always had your back."
According to his wishes Mike has been cremated. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at l:00 PM. Father Jim Shaver will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
The family will receive friends at St. John Church on Thursday from 12 Noon to 1 PM.
In gratitude for the compassionate care each has given Mike and our family: in lieu of flowers we request donations to Allegiance Hospice, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or to St. John Catholic School.
