Videto, Melvin L.
12/29/33-2/13/23
Born in Jackson on December 29, 1933, Mel passed away on February 13, 2023, in Rockford, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Wernet Videto, in 2020; his parents, Ivan and Prudence Pierce Videto; siblings, William Videto, Roberta Swanson and Virgina Gazlay and their spouses; Phyllis' parents, John and Mary Wernet, siblings and their spouses; and several nieces and nephews.
Mel was a graduate of Jackson High School and Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. Following his graduation, Mel and Phyllis were married in 1956 and spent their lives in Jackson. He worked for Commonwealth Associates for more than 30 years, which provided not only lifelong friendships but also the opportunity for both international and domestic travel. Memories of those experiences were among his greatest treasures.
With a strong interest in history and culture, Mel took the family on many memorable vacations.   When his children became busy with their own children, these took the form of extended family trips to lodges and resorts where everyone could vacation together, events affectionately referred to as "Camp Videto." Fishing, golfing, computer technology and genealogy were favorite hobbies. He was a devoted fan of both the Detroit Tigers and MSU Spartans. After retiring, he and Phyllis spent winters in Florida, enjoying new friendships and experiences. But Jackson was always home, and Mel treasured the life he and Phyllis built there, surrounded by their parents, brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren.
Honoring and celebrating Mel's memory are his children and their spouses: Cindy (Joe) Samson, Carol (Jim) Grund, Steve (Lori) Videto, Brian (Donna) Videto, and Cathy (Allan) Padbury. His beloved grandchildren include Johanna (Luke) Grof, Kristina Samson, Matthew (Lauren) Grund, Paul Grund, David (MaryAnn) Grund, Katelyn Videto, Justin Videto, Dylan (Kristen) Videto, Mel Videto, Ana Videto, Will Padbury and Nathan Padbury. Recent additions to the family are great-grandchildren Liliana Grund and Tobias Videto.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Melvin's Life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Desnoyer Funeral Home with Faith Hospice Chaplain, Cecilio Reyna, officiating.
