Melvin Jack Smith, 78, of Jackson was called home by our Lord on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021. He was born on Feb. 27, 1943 in Adrian, MI. to Jack C. Smith and Lila M. (Kittle) Smith. Melvin proudly served in the United States Army from 1961-1964 and was stationed in Germany. He returned to the United States and was employed at Ford Motor Company in Saline, MI for 24 years. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, camping, but most of all woodworking, operating out of his "Smitty's" workshop at home.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda (Croy) Smith of Jackson, daughter-in-law Sue (York) Smith, of Napoleon, MI, son Chad Smith, sister Jean James of Jackson, brothers Richard (Jill) Smith of Hillsdale, and Gary (Debra) Smith, of Coldwater. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, two sons, and one daughter.
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a private family visitation will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Desnoyer Funeral Home in Jackson, followed by a graveside service at Macon Township Cemetery in Macon, MI. All who attend are requested to wear
masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
Memorial donations are suggested to Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, or the charity of one's choice.
