Hrebec, Matt P.
Age 94, of Jackson, Michigan passed away peacefully under the compassionate care of HFA Hospice Home surrounded by family. Matt was the youngest of 10 children, born on 12-20-1926 to Peter and Katherine (Colnar) Hrebec in Calumet, Michigan. Matt is survived by 7 children, Terese (Dave) Cowan, Paul, Judy (Phil) Shrontz, David, Nancy (Dennis) Mullen, Matt (Mary), Carol (Earl) Haller; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ed Bagatini; numerous nieces and nephews and former daughter-in-law, Catherine Moss, mother of Maria (Tom) Hosmer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria in 2014.
Matt was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean War and was very proud of his Slovenian heritage. Matt served in the Michigan State Police for over 40 years, retiring in 1988 as Captain, 4th District Commander. Matt loved all sports, especially hockey and coached for over 20 years for JAHA. Matt was a member of the Moose Lodge, Lumen Christi Titan Club, and was a member of St. John Evangelist Parish since 1963.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 2:30 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Tim Nelson officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, October 21 at 10:00 AM at St. John's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 19 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. The family will also receive friends at St. John's Church on Wednesday from 2:00 to 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Lumen Christi or the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home would be appreciated.
