REES, (NEWTON), MARYELIZABETH "TINKEY"

Died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Allegiance Hospice Home after a short illness, age 79. Tinkey was the daughter of Dr. Ray E. and Mary T. Newton, and the widow of Daniel L. Rees. She is survived by her brother, Buzz (Judy) Newton and their sons, Ray E. III (Liz), Edward G., and Christopher H. (Cinnamon); her sister-in-law, Mrs. Howard (Jane) Wurth and her children, Elizabeth (Bert) Vander Lee and James G. (Medy) Wurth; and many dear friends, including Val and Larry Bullen, and R. Scott Johnson. The Newtons were among the founding families of Queen's parish, and Tinkey remained a devout Catholic all her life. She was a graduate of Jackson High School, class of 1949, and earned her AB in elementary education from the University of Michigan in 1953. She was an active supporter of Jackson, volunteering in many capacities from knitting prayer shawls and caps for newborns, to being a docent at the Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History. Tinkey's cheerful and positive attitude will be remembered and missed by all. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church. Interment Roseland Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to Allegiance Hospice Home or the charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and on Wednesday at the Church from 10 to 10:30 AM.
