Mary Helen Pangborn
Passed away peacefully May 9, 2017 with family at her side. Mary was the oldest daughter of Julius and Ethel Hoffman (both deceased), born August 11, 1922. She was one of 10 siblings. Julius (Elaine)(both deceased), Edward (deceased), Francis (deceased), Thomas (Annie) (both deceased), Annetta Kelly (deceased) (William), Vincent (deceased) (Mary), Robert (Patricia), Cecile Smoker, and Janet Duffy (Arthur, deceased).
She graduated from St. Mary Star of the Sea HS in 1940 and went on to attend Mercy School of Nursing in Ann Arbor. She maintained her registered nursing certification until she retired from St. Louis Center, Chelsea, MI in 1987. Mary married Spencer J Pangborn (deceased) in 1943. They were the loving parents of 12 children. Stephen (Jill) , Thomas (Diane) (Mary, deceased), Andrew (Suzy, deceased), Kenneth (Linda), Vincent (Nancy), Martha Czarnecki (deceased)(Craig), Dominic (Delia), Jeanne Seese (Gary), John (Jill), Robert (Lori), Francis (deceased), and Kathryn Warren (Kenneth). They were also proud grandparents of 33 grandchildren and over 30 great and great-great grandchildren.
Mary and Spencer were active parishioners of St. Mary Star of the Sea and helped many throughout the years with their loving service and faithful friendship. They moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1987 to enjoy their retirement. There they were active parishioners of Our Lady of the Valley and were active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Phoenix. Mary returned to Jackson in 2010 and lived with her son Vincent before moving to Ridgecrest Care Center.
The family extends our gratitude to all of the care givers at Ridgecrest who loved and cared for Mary. Their dedicated service and friendship were a welcome sight each time we were with Mary, especially in the final days before her passing. God Bless you All.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 21 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Fr. Tim Nelson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, July 21 from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM with a Rosary Service at 9:45 AM.
