McAlary, Mary "Karen"

Of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the age of 83 years. Survived by her daughter, Sharon Roman; two sons, Mark (Cindy) Roman and Martin Roman; step-son, James McAlary; four grandchildren, Victoria Roman, Alex McAlary, Josh McAlary, and Grace McAlary; great-grandchildren, Willow and Logan McAlary; sisters, Cathy Ambs, Sherron Hanna, and Nancy (Tom) Oleksy-Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Joe; father, William Nolan; mother, Ruth English and step-father, Hubert "Pete" English; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Bruce Parish; brothers-in-laws, Thomas Ambs and Joseph Oleksy; half-brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Joan Smith; and half-brother, Gordon Smith.

Karen was born in 1939 in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan Center High School in 1957. Karen retired from the City of Jackson. She enjoyed going to the Y and also enjoyed her flower garden. Karen loved her family very much.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Tim Nelson officiating. Private interment will be held at St. John Catholic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and at St. Mary's Church on Friday from 10:00-10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the VFW National Home for Children, 3573 S. Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, Michigan 48827, St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, or to the charity of your choice.
