MAES, MARY ANGELA
aged 97, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012 under the loving care of her family and the staff at the Allegiance Hospice Home. She was born on August 1, 1914 to Joseph and Pauline Mirowski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hector, the love of her life, her infant son, Gerard, and her siblings: Joe, Ed, Genevieve and Lillian. She is survived by her children, Joseph (Cathy) Maes of South Lyon,MI, Tom (Jeanie) Maes of Brooklyn, MI; Margaret (Daniel) Pierson of Grand Rapids, MI; Jerry (Joanne) Maes of Jackson, MI; and Anne (Greg) Ford of Bloomington, MN.
In addition she is survived by 11 grandchildren: Alicia, Kyle, Ryan, Christopher, Amy, Kate, Nick, Chad, Sean, Lindsay and Fabian; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mary will be remembered as a loving wife and mother. She was known for making the best ever apple pie, homemade cinnamon raisin bread and golumpkis. Her cookie jar was always full for her children and grandchildren. As a master seamstress, she taught sewing lessons at a local fabric store and enjoyed sewing beautiful outfits for herself and other family members.
In addition she volunteered at the Lumen Christi bookstore. She also loved working outdoors in her garden, growing beautiful flowers which surrounded her house and vegetables which she shared with family, friends and the Jackson Interfaith Shelter.
Mary was a faith-filled person and a lifelong member of the Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church where she and her husband, Hector, attended daily Mass. They belonged to the Perpetual Adoration Society since it's beginning at Queen's Parish where they spent an hour in prayer and meditation weekly.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 am at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church with Father Mathias Thelen officiating. Interment St. John's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM with the Rosary at 6:30 PM. The family will also receive friends at Queen's Church on Wednesday from 10 to 10:30 AM.
The family wishes to give our heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers and staff of Trellis Gardens who provided loving care for our mom.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Jackson Interfaith Shelter or the Allegiance Hospice Home.
