Harwood, Mary Janet "Jan"
Passed away on Saturday morning, September 19, 2020 at her home of 40 years in Jackson, but not before Father Tim was able to pay her a visit and sing her favorite Christmas song. She is survived by her four children: Mark (Jody Harwood) of Birmingham, MI; David Harwood of McLoud, OK; Jane Harwood of Jackson, MI; Nancy Harwood (Brian Brown) of Chandler, AZ; granddaughter, Erika Harwood; grandson, Daniel Harwood; brother Conrad McNamara of Ubly, MI; sister Elizabeth Emrick of Lincroft, NJ; and sister Anne Burns (Jim) of Grand Rapids. Preceded in death by her husband Douglas Harwood; father James McNamara; and mother Loretta McNamara.
Despite her illness and loss of vision, Jan was still able to maintain a healthy and active social life. She was an avid card player—and winner—with a special fondness for Bridge, active in her church, a frequent volunteer, and president of the Women's Organization of the Country Club of Jackson. She loved tennis, both playing and watching.
Even through a growing pain and decline in mobility, she welcomed conversation with friends and family and made sure everyone felt welcomed and loved in her presence. She made her home a place of comfort, ensuring everyone was cared for and definitely making sure everyone was well fed.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 1:30 PM at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church with Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. Interment will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution to Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church or to the American Cancer Society.
