JOHNSTONE,MARTHA ANN (BONFIGLIO)

Age 72, passed away Monday, July 5, 2010. Martha was a 1956 graduate of Hillsdale High School and a 1960 graduate of Siena Heights University. She taught thirty years for the Lansing Diocese, twenty five of those at Our Lady of Fatima, Michigan Center (1977-2002). Other schools were St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Pius X and St. Michael's of Flint. She was also a CCD teacher at St. Mary's of Jackson and Our Lady of Fatima (1990-1994). Martha was honored three times in "Who's Who of American Teachers". She was a former member of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Musical Theatre, Clark Lake Players, Queen's Choir and Our Lady of Fatima Choir. Martha is survived by her four children and eleven grandchildren: Christopher (Chip and Karen) Johnstone (Kyle, Casey and Caleb), Mary Johnstone (Solomon and Alexandria Blair), Nancy Bellers (Edward, Rafe, Cindy and Riley), and David (Melisa) Johnstone (Anthony and Brea Marie). One sister survives, Nancy Bonfiglio Dogan of Wayne, PA., two nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by a sister Marie, two brothers Natale Jr., and Anthony, and her parents Natale and Ruth Bonfiglio all of Hillsdale, MI.

The Mass of The Christian Burial will held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 711 N. Francis St., Jackson, MI 49201 on Friday at 1:00 PM. Reverend James Shaver officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 12:00 PM to 1:00PM. Private interment will take place at Saint Anthony Cemetery in Hillsdale.

In lieu of flowers, Martha would prefer that we support a child through Christian Children's Fund (CCF), Save the Children, Grace Haven or send donations to St. Jude's Hospital, Covenant House of New York or a charity for children of your choice.

The Johnstone children would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Allegiance Hospice Home staff for their incredible care and kindness that allowed for a peaceful, loving environment in which to honor their mother with comfort at a difficult time.
