Marlene Marie Henderson (Zimmerman), age 94, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025. She was born  in Traverse City Michigan December 19, 1930, to John and Ravella Zimmerman. She grew up on a farm and had many happy memories of farm life. Marlene's long life was marked by strength, compassion, and a deep commitment to both her family and her community.

In 1946, the family moved to Jackson, Michigan, where she graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949 and later attended Jackson Junior College. She began her professional career at Consumers Power Company, then spent over eight years working for Aeroquip. In 1970, Marlene began what would become a 21-year career with the Department of Social Services, where her dedication and compassion touched many lives until her retirement in 1991.

Marlene was a woman of many interests and talents. An avid reader and enthusiastic beachcomber, she found joy along the shores of Lake Michigan. She loved horses and learned to ride English saddle at the age of 55. She also enjoyed bicycling with her husband and shopping with her friends.

Deeply committed to mental health advocacy, Marlene served for a decade as president for the Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Jackson, Michigan. Her leadership and dedication helped shape meaningful support and awareness within the community.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend — a woman known for her quick wit, warm heart, and generosity. Marlene was always ready to lend a hand, whether to family, friends, or strangers in need.

Marlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Henderson; her son, Chris Henderson; and her brother, Jerry Zimmerman. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Patricia, and her loving sister, Dorothy Zimmerman.

A graveside service to honor Marlene's life will be held at Roseland Cemetery on July 10 at 12:00 Noon with Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating.   Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable woman.
