Marjory Zada Graves, 67, of Jackson, went home to her Lord and Savior, Monday, August 17, 2015, under the care of family, friends, and Allegiance Hospice. Marjory was born in Jackson on February 20, 1948. Her parents, John and Naomi Lindamood, preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, John M. Graves, and two very special brothers, John "Lindy" (Sharon) Lindamood of Sturgis and Alan "Pete" (Kathy) Lindamood of Jackson, and eight nieces and nephews who each held a very special place in her heart.

Marjory grew up next to the United Methodist Church on Michigan Avenue in Grass Lake. She was salutatorian of the Grass Lake High School Class of 1966 and state DAR finalist. At Jackson Community College, she played basketball and graduated with honors in Business.

Marj spent her career as an office professional working mostly with colleges and universities including the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Hope College, Waukesha County Technical College in Wisconsin, and Madonna University, where she served as Coordinator of Academic Affairs in the Office of the Provost. Her 'other career' was as a valued partner to John in the community activities of the school districts he served as an administrator. Since returning to Jackson County in 2001, Marjory spent untold joyful hours doing financial, database, secretarial, and kitchen work as a volunteer at Jackson First United Methodist Church.

Marjory's life was enriched by her ties to her faith community, her commitment to family, her lasting friendships, the enjoyment of music and sports, extensive reading, and for the last 14 years, the care of her hosta garden. Wherever John and Marj lived, she was actively involved in the worship and work of their church. Whenever there was a question about what was happening with friends or the extended family, Marj would know. Like her father, she loved to play the organ, and like her mother, she was always part of the church choir. In her 40's she took up golf and skiing. After many years of high school sporting events, more recently she enjoyed following Big Ten football, basketball, volleyball, and the Detroit Tigers.

Some phrases used to describe Marj have been that she "lived her faith" with a "tender heart" and "quiet strength." John is quick to say that he has known for a long time that "God gave me the wonderful gift of the most special life partner."

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 21 at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Eric Beck officiating. The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 PM and on Friday at the Church from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment will held at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 2:00 PM on Friday.
