Marie Todoroff

Marie Todoroff (Economou) passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at age 91. Her husband and children were at her bed side. Marie was born on February 2, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to Macedonian parents Laburo and Parskavea (nee Karantjieff) Economou. Marie and her future husband, Richard, married in 1955. Their marriage was based on love. Marie’s children and her husband were her life. Their family was based on love. She wore a gold necklace that held seven gold rings, each of which had a grandchild’s initials engraved in it.

As a Macedonian grandmother, who spoke fluent Macedonian, her grandchildren knew her as Baba Marie. Marie and Richard’s greatest joys were activities with their children, such as: taking the children on trips up north, taking the children to Florida for the Apollo 11 moonshot, taking the children to the Michigan football games and tailgating, taking the children and grandchildren to their second house on the Great Lakes, Marie and Richard’s five day trip going down the Colorado River in a raft. Marie often said that she and Richard wanted a field of dreams, and, their dreams came true. Marie was proud of their family business, Todoroff’s® Original Coney Island Restaurant, which several periodicals referred to as a Michigan landmark. Marie had an effervescent personality, a lovely smile, a "can do" attitude about life, and she always saw the cup as full. When someone was in a slump, she always had the right words to lift them up. The grandchildren were enamored and in love with Baba Marie and Dado Richard.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister Vivian. She is survived by her husband of seventy-one years, Richard; her three children, Kurt Todoroff, Kimberly Belenky (Michael), and Keith Todoroff (Michelle); her seven grandchildren, Erik Todoroff (Nicole), Megan Seibert, Emily Belenky, Elaine McIntyre (Scott), Lane Todoroff (Heather), Hailey Maher (Curtis), and Graham Todoroff; her six great grandchildren, Addison Todoroff, Dominik Todoroff, Adam McIntyre, Grace McIntyre, Vera McIntyre, and Camden Todoroff (on the way).

Marie's passing is no small loss. The world is a lesser place, without her. The family will attend a private viewing and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
